This month marks a major milestone for Studio R Photography — four years in business and one full year of having a dedicated studio space to call our own. As I sit in the quiet stillness of the studio between sessions, surrounded by the soft hum of lights and the echoes of laughter from the families, couples, pets, and tiny toddlers who’ve filled this space with joy, I can’t help but reflect on how far this journey has come.

From a Dream to a Studio

When I first started Studio R Photography, I had a vision rooted in storytelling. I wanted to create meaningful, emotion-filled images that froze time for the people who trusted me with their most treasured memories. I worked from my home, traveling with gear in the backseat, setting up makeshift backdrops, and squeezing edits in between teaching and family life.

Fast forward four years and not only have I grown as an artist and a business owner — but we’ve also opened our very own studio in the heart of the Poconos. It’s a cozy, welcoming space where creativity lives and clients feel seen, celebrated, and comfortable. A space where our community knows they can come to laugh, pose, and capture the moments that matter.

A Commitment to the Client Experience

One thing that has remained a constant from day one is my commitment to creating a truly special experience for every single client. It’s not just about taking great photos — it’s about how people feel before, during, and after the session. From thoughtful pre-session planning to personalized galleries and follow-ups, the Studio R experience is built on care, communication, and connection.

I’ve learned that people remember how you made them feel, and it’s those feelings — the giggles during a cake smash, the tearful smiles during a goodbye session for a beloved pet, the pride of a graduating senior — that elevate photography from service to storytelling.

No More Apologizing for Pricing

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in these four years is this: stop undercharging and start valuing your worth.

Early on, I worried that charging what my time, experience, and artistry were worth would scare clients away. I feared judgment. But the truth is, when you know your value and stand behind the quality you deliver, the right clients find you — and they appreciate the investment they’re making in lasting memories.

Running a business is hard work. It takes time, training, gear, software, planning, marketing, and heart. I no longer apologize for my pricing — because what I offer is so much more than a few snapshots. It's an experience, an heirloom, a legacy.

Navigating the Challenges

Let’s be honest — it hasn’t always been easy. There have been difficult clients, miscommunications, and moments that tested my patience and resolve. But each one taught me something. I’ve learned how to set clearer boundaries, manage expectations, and trust my gut. I’ve learned that not every client is the right fit, and that’s okay. Saying "no" can be just as important as saying "yes."

These experiences — even the tough ones — have helped shape the business into something stronger, wiser, and more intentional.

Always Learning, Always Growing

One year into having our own studio and four years into this dream, I’m not slowing down. I’m constantly learning — from mentors, from peers, from every single shoot. I’m experimenting, upgrading, adjusting, and planning. I’m thinking about new ways to serve the community, new seasonal experiences to offer, and fresh collaborations to explore. The studio is small but mighty — a creative space where I can continue to build something meaningful.

The truth is, this isn’t just about photography. It’s about people. It’s about capturing life’s milestones, fleeting moments, and quiet in-betweens. It’s about building a business rooted in heart and driven by passion.

Thank You

To every client who has stepped in front of my lens, thank you. To those who believed in me before I had a studio, thank you. And to those who have celebrated with me through every new step — your support means the world.

Here's to the next chapter. To continued growth, more beautiful memories, and a community that believes in the magic of photography. Studio R Photography is just getting started.
