Last week, the Roving Photography Group lost a special member — Kevin.

It's hard to find the right words to capture the weight of that loss, but I wanted to take a few moments to reflect on the friend and fellow photographer he was.

I first met Kevin in 2021 when we were both covering Celtic Fest—he had been paired with me as my event partner. I still remember that day vividly — the energy of the event, the click of the cameras all around us, and Kevin’s easygoing but straightforward nature. He was the kind of person who spoke his mind. There was no guessing where you stood with Kevin, and in a world that sometimes feels full of filters and hesitation, that honesty was a gift.

Over the past few years, I got to know him better through our shared love of photography. We were part of a community where it didn’t matter how old you were, where you came from, or how long you'd been shooting. Photography has this incredible way of crossing those invisible lines and building connections between people who might otherwise never have met. Kevin was proof of that. His passion, his eye for a great shot, and his genuine spirit made him someone you looked forward to seeing at every outing.

One thing I’ve come to realize over the years is that photography isn't just about capturing moments — it's also about the people you meet along the way. Kevin was one of those people for me. He, like so many others I've had the good fortune to meet through this shared passion, made my journey a little richer, a little fuller. It's a reminder that life’s real treasures often aren’t the images we collect on memory cards, but the friendships and experiences that weave into our lives when we least expect them.

In the days since Kevin’s passing, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about the connections we build through this shared love of photography. There’s something powerful about surrounding yourself with people who not only understand your interests but also challenge you to grow, to see differently, and to keep showing up — camera in hand, heart open. The Roving Photography Group has always been more than just a gathering of photographers; it’s been a place to belong. And Kevin was a vital part of that.

When we come together around a passion — whether it’s photography, music, art, or anything else — we create spaces where real friendships can grow. The kind that go beyond gear talk or editing tips, and instead remind us that we’re not walking this creative path alone. Kevin reminded me of that every time we met — with a quick joke, an honest critique, or just a shared moment of silence behind our lenses.

If there’s one takeaway from losing someone like Kevin, it’s this: cherish the people who share your passion. Make time for those meetups, go on the photo walks, stay late to chat after the shoot. Because in the end, it’s not just about the photos. It’s about the people beside you when you take them.

Kevin's absence will be felt in our group. His humor, his steady presence, and his immense love of Coca-Cola will not be forgotten. I’m grateful for the conversations we shared, the photos we took, and for the example he set — Be yourself, speak your truth, never lose sight of what you love — and remember: 'I can't die yet, there's still many people I need to piss off.'

Rest easy, Kevin. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
